The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has simplified the “Know Your Vehicle – KYV” process for FASTag users to make toll payments more transparent and hassle-free. As part of the KYV process, vehicle users are required to upload a photograph of their vehicle, their Registration Certificate (RC), and, in some cases, a photo of the vehicle owner to verify and link the FASTag to the correct vehicle.
What’s New in the KYV Process?
- No Immediate Disconnections: No more worries, your FASTag won’t be deactivated right away if your vehicle hasn’t completed the KYV process. You’ll have sufficient time and reminders to finish it.
- Simplified Photo Uploads: Uploading side-view images of your vehicle is not required. A single front photo showing the number plate and FASTag sticker is all that’s required.
- Auto-Fetch Vehicle Details: Once you share your vehicle number, chassis number, or contact details, the system will automatically retrieve your registration details (RC) from the Vahan database.
- Quick verification for Multiple Vehicles: If you own more than one vehicle linked to the same mobile number, you can easily select the specific vehicle you want to verify.

Key Challenges with the Old KYC Process
The new KYV process was introduced to prevent leakages in the FasTag system, as it had been noticed that some truck drivers were allegedly misusing the car tags to avoid paying high tolls. However, the old KYC process comes as an additional burden for FasTag users, who face challenges in uploading multiple photos of the vehicle, relevant documents, and navigating the not-so-user-friendly websites. Some people also complained about the harassment at the toll gates after their FASTag was suddenly frozen for not completing the KYV verification.
What about the old FasTags?
If your FAStag is updated before implementation of the new rules, it will continue to work until there are complaints about being loose or misused. Additionally, you will receive timely reminders from the bank to complete the KYC process.

Helpline Desk for KYV Update Assistance
If a user encounters difficulty uploading documents for any reason, the issuing bank proactively contacts the customer and assists in completing the KYC process before disconnection. Customers can also lodge complaints or raise queries on the National Highway Helpline Number 1033 for any KYV-related issues with their issuer bank.
Bottom Line
